Mercedes-AMG Team Strakka Racing have announced its 2018 Blancpain GT Endurance Cup and 24 Hours of Spa driver line ups.
The Silverstone-based team will debut a pair of Mercedes-AMG GT3s after switching to the German marque from McLaren this year, competing in both the Blancpain GT Series and the Intercontinental GT Challenge (IGTC).
Following a class podium in February’s opening IGTC round at the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour, the British squad will field a car in both the overall Pro class and Pro-Am.
Chasing the overall title in the Pro car will be 2013 Blancpain GT champion Maximilian Buhk, Maximilian Götz and Portuguese McLaren convert Alvaro Parente.
Due to commitments in the Pirelli World Challenge though, Parente will miss the Silverstone round in May, where his Blancpain seat will be filled by David Fumanelli for the weekend.
In the Pro-Am car, Nick Leventis will be joined by Lewis Williamson and new addition, Chris Buncombe, while Fumanelli will make up the fourth driver in the combination at the 24 Hours of Spa.
“We are delighted to have secured such a formidable line-up of talented and successful drivers for Strakka’s debut year with the Mercedes-AMG GT3s,” said team director Jay Davenport.
“I think we’ve got all the ingredients for a successful season in both the Blancpain Endurance Series and Intercontinental GT Challenge. We have enjoyed getting to grips with our move to Mercedes-AMG and will be pushing hard for podiums and wins.”
“After achieving a podium result (in class) at the Bathurst 12 hour for the opening race of the Intercontinental GT Challenge earlier in February, we are determined to push even harder and claim the top step,” added team founder and driver Nick Leventis.
“We were able to get to know the cars better and hopefully we can use this knowledge to our advantage.”
The first round of the Blancpain GT Endurance Cup takes place at Monza on 21-22 April.
