Christopher Haase has put the #29 Land Motorsport Audi R8 LMS GT3 on pole for tomorrow’s California 8 Hours at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

The German driver set a 1:23.961 to secure the top spot for himself and co-drivers Christopher Mies and Connor De Phillippi, beating Markus Winkelhock (#44 Audi Sport Team Magnus) by 0.195s.

Third place was taken out by the Porsche Motorsport North America Wright Motorsport squad, who were over half a second behind the first and second placed Audi’s.

Crucially though, the Jorg Bergmeister, Pat Long and Romain Dumas driven 911 GT3 R ended up 0.003s quicker than Robin Frijn’s WRT Audi who settled for fourth behind the Porsche.

Alvaro Parente in the #9 K-PAX McLaren 650s locked out fifth, while Peter Kox (#93 RealTime Racing) was the first of the Acura NSXs in sixth.

Jeroen Bleekemolen in the #54 Black Swan Racing Porsche 911 nabbed the Pro-Am class pole in seventh overall, with Wolf Henzler landing eighth in GMG Racing’s #17 911.

In the GT4 class, the #07 TRG Aston Martin of Greg Milzcik, Michael Davis and Derek Deboer secured pole position and will start at the front of the GT4 pack, behind the two MARC Cars Australia Mazda 3 V8s who qualified 11th and 12th overall.

The race will run from 9.15am-5.30pm local (Pacific) time on Sunday.
