The #5 WRT Audi R8 LMS GT3 of Dries Vanthoor and Marcel Fässler have finished the first practice session in P1, ahead of this weekend’s Blancpain GT Sprint Series round at the Hungaroring.
Vanthoor blitzed around the Hungarian Grand Prix venue in a lap time of 1:44.086 to put the car at the top of the time sheets early on in the session.
The sister #1 WRT Audi of Enzo Ide and Christopher Mies placed second, a mere 0.011s off the pace of Vanthoor’s lap.
The #63 GRT Grasser Racing Lamborghini of Christian Engelhart and Mirko Bortolotti took out third place for the session, while Will Stevens and Markus Winkelhock made it three Audi’s in the top four, rocketing to fourth place in the #2 WRT car.
The 80-minute session took place under a beautiful blue sky as Budapest erupted with the sound of the world’s best GT3 machinery.
Astonishingly, at the end of practice one, the top five cars were separated by 0.090s which equates to basically nothing. The top 17 cars were separated by one second all the way back to the #7 Bentley Team M-Sport Continental GT3 of Steven Kane and Vincent Abril.
The second practice session kicks off at 14:15 local time, as the teams and drivers make their final preparations for Qualifying and the first race on Saturday.
