Kimi Raikkonen will stay at Ferrari for the 2018 Formula One season, after the Italian team has today announced that it will renew his contract.
Speculation and talks have been floating around the paddock recently that the 2007 world champion would be leaving the sport at the end of the season, but Ferrari have today, put those rumours to rest.
Ferrari had previously said their driver announcements for next season would take place at the Italian Grand Prix, but may have chosen to confirm and lock them in early to stop speculation of the future becoming a distraction of a bigger goal – the Formula One World Championship.
In total, nine of Raikkonen’s Formula One career victories have been with Ferrari, while his 122 starts for the prancing horse place his third on the teams all-time list – only behind Michael Schumacher, who’s on 179 – and Felipe Massa who sits on 139.
The Belgian Grand Prix commences with Practice 1 on Friday August 25 as the holiday ends for F1 drivers and fans.
